'I AM NOT QUITTING ...YET!'

EDIT REGARDING KIM'S INJURY: It's a torn right hip muscle. She'll have to rest for about four weeks and should then be ready for Madrid. She's still in the USA right now and will fly back to Europe next week.

Today saw the rise of rumours around the net, stating that Kim might retire earlier than expected ('earlier' meaning 'immediately'). However, these have been denied by Kim herself.

As we told you earlier, there had been no official mention of an early retirement so far. In a post match TV interview in Miami (after losing to Wickmayer) Kim only mentioned the need to look back and evaluate the last few months so as to try and see what could be thought about in order to make it all easier on her body which is struggling to keep up with Kim's intensive playing style.

Following that post-match interview, several media suggested Kim was going to stand back and think it over, which is indeed true. But what Kim and her team are going to think about is not whether she'll pick up the racket again, they'll rather try to rethink her training routines and make adjustments to her schedule. Kim is not going to quit like this!

She even took to twitter today to clear things up for good...

MIAMI • KIM OUSTED IN 3RD ROUND

(24 MARCH) Kim's comeback tournament has come to an end as she lost to fellow Belgian Yanina Wickmayer 4-6 (5)6-7 earlier today at the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami.

'Yanina definitely started off much better and was more consistent throughout the two sets, and I wasn't', Kim said. 'It was still close. In a way it's a little bit frustrating knowing you're playing not even 50% but it's still close. On one hand you're like "Ah, I could have beaten her." But she played well today. I did feel she was getting nervous to finish off the match as well, so I had a few opportunities to get back into it and maybe win that second set.'

Kim was visibly not at her best physically, having trouble moving around the court and reaching crosscourt shots, but there's been no official mention of an injury or whatsoever so far; one can thus guess this bad mobility was due to her lack of matches over the last few weeks.

Still Kim said that she wanted to call the trainer but eventually did not as Yanina was about to serve for the match (at 4-5).

'All these years on the tour plus my demanding and intensive playing style are slowly taking their toll on me. We're gonna have to look back and evaluate the last few months. We'll have to find the right balance: playing enough tournaments yet making sure my body can weather the storm.'

Kim will now spend some time at her in-laws in New Jersey before flying back to Europe and slowly getting ready for the clay court season. As of now, here is what her agenda looks like: Madrid, Rome and a one-week practice session in Spain before Roland Garros. This is naturally subject to change but we'll keep you posted.

MIAMI • KIM INTO 3RD ROUND

(22 MARCH) Kim has booked her second match win in as many days after defeating Germany's Julia Goerges to reach the 3rd round of the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami.

It all started quite fast as Kim stormed to a 5-1 lead, eventually closing out the first set 6-2 in less than half an hour.

The second set was a very different story, with Kim making more unforced errors and losing her focus a bit. Each player got broken repeatedly but Kim managed to hold serve at 6-5 and thus avoid a tiebreak, taking the match 6-2 7-5 in 1 hour and 30 minutes.

In the 3rd round Kim will face fellow Belgian Yanina Wickmayer. It will be the second meeting between Belgium's No.1 and No.2 players – Kim won their 1st round encounter in Eastbourne 2010. Their match is scheduled third from an 11am start on the Grandstand and should thus not start before 2.30pm, local time.

MIAMI • KIM STORMS BACK TO REACH 2ND ROUND

(21 MARCH) In her first match in almost two months, Kim showed some rust but ended up getting her groove back, winning her 1st round match at the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami against Jarmila Gajdosova, 4-6 6-1 6-0.

It has not been a lucky last 12 months for Kim. Thanks to various injuries – including shoulder, wrist, ankle and abdominal – this is just her sixth event since Miami last year, and it is certainly reflected in her current status as the World No.37, her lowest ranking since coming back to the WTA in August 2009 (not counting when she was unranked through her first three tournaments).

But the last time she competed she was so close to top form, pushing Victoria Azarenka to three sets in the semifinals of the Australian Open, and she showed she still has a lot left in the tank on Wednesday, dropping the first set after leading 3-1 but going on absolute cruise control from there, winning 12 of the last 13 games of the match to beat the hard-hitting Gajdosova, 4-6 6-1 6-0.

'It's always tough to get that first match rhythm under your belt', Kim said. 'When it comes down to my game I felt I wasn't quite going through my shots as I should have. I was just trying to find that rhythm, but on the other hand maybe forgetting to still play aggressive tennis. But as I started to feel more comfortable with the conditions and being in a match situation again I was hitting better, and that definitely showed in the second and third sets.'

The conditions weren't the only things to get used to again – also just match play in general. 'It had been a while since I played a match', Kim added. 'My last tournament was in Melbourne, a good month and a half or two months ago, or even longer. I was home rehabbing my ankle and had a really good practice and physical schedule. But it's just a matter of getting those matches again. One thing I can count on is I have the experience, though. It doesn't take me that long to get used to it again. But it has become tougher.'

Kim also said the ankle that kept her out since Australia is 95% good now.

When Kim lost to Azarenka at the Australian Open, 6-4 1-6 6-3, little did everyone know Azarenka's 11-0 record then would balloon up to 23-0 now. 'I felt like I was really close to winning that match', Kim said. 'She's been playing really good tennis. I think she's in a mental state of mind where she feels very confident and is on a roll. It's really showing in her game and in the way she approaches matches. I know what it's like to be in that situation, where you feel very focused but at the same time playing freely, without any worries.'

Kim was also wearing a black ribbon during her match against Gajdosova. 'There is one funeral today and one funeral tomorrow for the Belgian kids and adults who passed away in the bus crash last week in Switzerland', she explained.

Clijsters's win over Gajdosova was her 30th career match win in Miami, now 30-7 overall. She is a two-time champion here, prevailing in 2005 (beating four Top 10 players along the way) and 2010 (beating three Top 10 players along the way, as well as a No.65-ranked, pre-breakthrough edition of Petra Kvitova).

In the next round, Kim will have a first-time meeting with No.14 seed Julia Goerges. Their 2nd round encounter will be the 2nd match on Thursday and should thus start around 12.30pm, local time.

NEWS UPDATE • 'FULL' 2012 SEASON FOR KIM?

(8 MARCH) Long time no post! Hi everyone! The blog has been rather quiet over the last weeks as Kim has been recovering from her left ankle injury. As previously posted on our Facebook and Twitter accounts, Kim is not taking part in the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells as she wants to give her body enough time to recover fully and get some time to get into shape and train properly.

So Kim will officially be back for the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami, starting 19 March. She'll leave Belgium next week to go and get ready for a tournament she's already won twice (2005 & 2010).

We can also reveal that Kim might after all play a 'full' 2012 season!
Indeed, although she was initially supposed to stop after the Olympics, then the US Open, Kim has revealed that if she manages to be amongst the 8 best ranked players of the year, she will play the Year-End Championships. That's some rather amazing news for all Kim fans! Let's just cross fingers she can be inside that Top 8 by the end of the season!
